"REAL" DOG PROBLEMS - DOG BEHAVIOR AND OBEDIENCE
PROBLEMS
Group Dog Obedience Classes or Puppy Training Classes From Some Valley Trainers as well as PetsMart and Petco Stores, are ABSOLUTELY the WORST WAY TO TRAIN YOUR DOG OR PUPPY!
First, most advocate bringing your puppy to a group class filled with un-socialized, aggressive, untrained, behavior problem ridden puppies and dogs. For Puppies in particular, this is TOTALLY WRONG! Most puppy training starts at around 8 weeks old. This is the exact time that EVERY PUPPY EXPERIENCES THE FIRST FEAR STAGE OF PUPPY DEVELOPMENT! At this time from 8 to 12 weeks of age, your puppy is especially sensitive and fearful, and a lot of care is needed to avoid creating a permanent imprint on the brain and nervous system of your puppy that will cause permanent behavior problems! THIS IS NOT THE TIME TO EXPOSE YOUR PUPPY TO MANY DOGS THAT ARE NEUROTIC AND HAVE BEHAVIOR PROBLEMS IN A UNORGANIZED CRAZY GROUP CLASS LIKE AT PETSMART, PETCO, AND SOME VALLEY TRAINERS!
Most group classes have between 7 to 14 puppies or dogs in them. Some will have 1 maybe 2 trainers if they are at 14. So for 1 hours time, you are lucky if you get 10 minutes of individualized help, training, and attention.
Along with the insanity of as many as 10 to 14 dogs running wild, dog owners/handlers with no idea what to do, and just one trainer to try to deal with this mess and accomplish some training in an hour! Your lucky if you can get all the dogs calmed down and walking in a circle in an hour. The FACT is THAT OVER 80% WHO SIGN UP FOR GROUP TRAINING CLASSES NEVER RETURN AFTER THE FIRST OR SECOND LESSON! And of those remaining, several fall behind others, and don't get what they need.
Typical Group Dog Obedience Classes or Puppy Training Classes CANNOT ADDRESS THE BEHAVIOR PROBLEMS THAT OCCUR IN YOUR HOME. YOU HAVE TO WORK IN THE ENVIRONMENT WHERE THE PROBLEMS ARE! Just giving verbal advice in a group class about an in-home behavior problem is no more effective than you reading a book on dog training. Why not hire a real professional the first time and don't waste your time and money!
Typical Group classes also are filled with many distractions from the start that make it very difficult to work with a puppy or dog that is in need of training. Our system is better than clicker only training, (TPR) Total Positive Reinforcement systems that lack the needed "permanence" and staying power that you need if you want to accomplish any kind of Off-Leash Reliability or any reliability without bribing with food.
